Because topology optimization aims to realize a form that achieves the part’s load and assembly requirements with minimum material or mass, it frequently produces shapes no human designer would construct—and shapes that can only be manufactured additively.
Bangal’s presentation included examples of redesigned parts that realized significant weight savings, as well as a demonstration of how topology optimization is applied using SolidThinking’s Inspire software.
