Big Systems displays Markforged’s Metal X 3D printer, which is designed to avoid the safety risks of powder-based printers and to be easily installed on shop floors. It is suitable for prototypes, tooling and fixtures, and short-run prints. It produces parts accurate to 50 microns, the company says. Parts are printed with honeycomb interiors to save weight without compromising strength, with good surface finish said to minimize postprocessing. The printer comes with complimentary software to import CAD designs and select print options. Turnkey engineering and 3D production support services can assist with design and production of parts.
