Farsoon Technologies’ large-frame, multi-laser FS721M metal laser powder bed (PBF) fusion system

Farsoon Technologies’ large-format metal LPBF system FS721M platform

Farsoon Technologies’ large-frame, multi-laser FS721M metal laser powder bed (PBF) fusion system offers dual and quad laser options. It features a large build volume of 720 × 420 × 420 mm and is equipped with two or four lasers with 500 W each, making it well suited for high-volume series production.

The rectangular build volume is optimized for producing large parts which favor one axis. The rectangular build chamber is designed for multi-laser configurations with the standard FS721M fitted with dual 500 W lasers, with each laser covering half of the build plate.

The FS721M can also be configured with a quad 500 W laser option, with each laser arranged linearly along the long axis of the build plate. This configuration is suitable for the production of multiple smaller parts with no stitch lines. With the dual laser configuration, the company says the FS721M can achieve a build rate of up to 160 cm3/hr., while the quad laser option can boost productivity up to 90 cm3/hr.

The printer includes features and capabilities to help ensure quality and repeatability, including high-performance, fully digital optics for controlling the lasers. The fully digital 3-axis optics enabled the development of advanced algorithmic controls and customized scanning strategies. These advanced controls are said to enable the FS721M to achieve uniform performance from one laser to the next in multi-laser overlap zones, resulting in parts which have homogenous properties across the build platform.

The FS721M also offers continuous powder feeding, optimized gas flow and a long-lasting integrated filter module, which all help to create a stable and uninterrupted build process to further enhance the melting process of metal powders.

The printer is powered by Farsoon’s Makestar software package which controls and monitors the machine’s operation to enable real-time monitoring of the build environment, including laser power, air flow, temperature, humidity and other variables.
