About New AIM3D GmbH
AIM3D was founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the University of Rostock (Chair for Fluid Technology and Microfluid Technology) in Rostock, Germany. They are among the pioneers in the field of pellet 3D printing. The company manufactures industrial 3D printers that use the composite extrusion modelling (CEM) process.
This enables the production of components and prototypes using commercially available injection molding pellets for metals, filled or unfilled thermoplastics and ceramics without the need for retrofitting on a disruptive multi-material 3D printing system.
The universal printing systems from AIM3D go beyond normal material limits, enabling the use of conventional injection molding materials and thus offering an extremely cost-effective approach to additive manufacturing.
As a unique selling point, these 3D printers feature the patented AIM3D CEM-Extruder® which can process almost any injection molding pellets up to a length/diameter of 3 mm. The high compression process results in consistent printing results at all times.
In addition to the ExAM 255, which has been on the market since 2019, AIM3D added the ExAM 510 to their portfolio in 2023, which is designed for larger components, high-temperature materials and even faster and more precise printing. There are currently over 30 ExAM 255, seven ExAM 510 and over 100 CEM extruders on the market.
With the newly introduced and patented Voxelfill technology by AIM3D, the limits of material extrusion printing in the area of anisotropic strength properties can be overcome. This unique combination of material extrusion pressure and injection molding achieves significantly higher strengths (up to 80%) in the Z-direction. AIM3D also offers the process and the associated slicing process as a cross-technology license for filament systems.
AIM3D is part of a comprehensive technology and research network, partnering with universities and industry.
