As highlighted in episode #63, Curiteva manufactures cervical spine implants using PEEK. But today most spine implants are made of metal — specifically, titanium. There are very good reasons to choose titanium, as Erik Erbe describes in this interview clip. And both materials are now benefiting from the design freedoms of additive manufacturing. But PEEK may have the edge in terms of stiffness, osseointegration and the important factor we learned about in this episode: radiolucency.
