Sodick has released the VL600QH, a high-column model wire EDMto the North American market.

This model is the latest addition to Sodick’s VL range of versatile wire EDM machines. As the capacity of additive machines continues to increase, it becomes increasingly important for wire EDM offerings to continue to accommodate the growing baseplate and support sizes, Sodick says. With a 500-mm Z-axis stroke, the VL600QH is suited for the postprocess removal of 3D-printed parts, as well as the production of large molds and aerospace components.

Like other models in the series, the EDM offers an improvement to the company’s SuperJet Automatic Wire Threader (AWT): the “Pop-Up” search function. The upgraded AWT is not only ideal for unattended machining, but also improves the success of multi-hole threading and the threading of curved surfaces, the company says. This larger model also offers three-pass fine-finish technology, improved over the previous generation of VZ series machines. Maintenance-free, friction-free rigid linear motor drives ensure positioning accuracy.
