Additive Manufacturing Media editor-in-chief | Covering industrial 3D printing in/on AM Magazine, AM Radio and The Cool Parts Show

There is a lot of additional flavor from my visit to Innovative 3D Manufacturing that I didn't get to work into the article. Here is a case in point. Co-founder Chris Beck loves the ball plate calibration system for 4-laser machines. Innovative has 12 laser powder bed fusion machines from Renishaw Additive Manufacturing, and 4 of them are 4-laser systems. The ball plate allows for calibration of the 4 lasers relative to one another in 10 minutes or less, assuring there are no witness lines in the part where lasers come together. Renishaw was a metrology company before it was an AM system provider, so a solution like this is natural to them. But what if you could calibrate the lasers without a needing a special plate AND adjust for laser position throughout the build??
