The latest version of Delcam’s PowerShape CAD software features new tools and enhancements for solid modeling and for manipulating point clouds that are designed to speed the production of designs ready for manufacturing, whether starting from imported CAD data or from scanned data.

PowerShape combines solid, surface, wireframe and direct modeling techniques in a single CAD program, reducing the need to transfer data between multiple programs and therefore streamlining the whole product development process, the company says.

The main enhancement in the software is the ability to use a graphical slider to rewind a model’s solid history tree to any position. Edits then can be made, either by applying the Solid Doctor feature or by using direct modeling tools, without losing the history. Once the edits have been completed, the rewind point can be moved or deleted, and the complete solid history then is re-built automatically.

Other solid modeling enhancements include a new dialog for the solid-split command, a more flexible replace-face option and new hole types enabling faster creation of holes for standard metric and imperial cap-head screws and bolts.
