SLM 280 HL Laser-Melting System Offers Dual-Laser Capability

The SLM 280 HL selective laser-melting system from SLM Solutions provides a 280 × 280 × 360-mm build envelope and is suitable for use with stainless steel, tool steel, cobalt chromium, aluminum and titanium. According to the company, the system can provide as much as 80 percent higher volume construction rate per unit of time depending on the arrangement of the components.

The SLM machine features a 400-W fiber laser and can be equipped with an additional 400-W or 1,000-W fiber laser. Depending on the laser configuration, practical layer thickness ranges from 20 to 75 microns or to 100 microns, while minimum scan line and wall thickness is 150 microns or 1,000 microns. Build speed ranges from 20 cm3/hr. to as fast as 45 cm3/hr.

The system provides gas circulation with laminar flow and low gas consumption as well as bidirectional loading movement. The open control concept enables the user to customize and supply individual construction processes. Customizations on an SLM 280 HL can be transferred to other SLM 280 HL and SLM 500 HL machines.
