OSAI Provides CNC for Fabru PlastJet 3C 3D Printers

Numerical control specialist OSAI is providing its OpenControl for Fabru’s PlastJet 3C model 3D printers. Intended for industrial prototype applications, the printers build parts using a fused deposition modeling (FDM) process following a CAM path that is managed by the OpenControl software.

The printers are said to provide high-precision, high-speed operation ranging to 450 mm/sec. while printing three different plastic materials simultaneously. They are capable of handling a range of plastics including ABS, HIPS, PLA, PVA and TPE at temperatures ranging to 450°C.

The OpenControl CNCs are scalable with computer power adaptable to customized requirements without modifications to the software or application, OSAI says. Block processing speeds range to 7,000 blocks per second. The control can use compact or modular drives, servomotors, and spindle motors to meet application needs.

OSAI’s real-time SoftPLC is also integrated within the CNC, enabling the control to interface with most machine systems, including multi-axis and multi-spindle machining centers as well as 3D printing systems.
