OR Laser designed the Orlas Creator metal additive manufacturing machine with small and medium-sized enterprises in mind. According to the company, the machine is suitable for jewelry, dentistry and medical sectors as well as smaller engineering firms and laboratories.

The system has a circular build platform design with a building volume measuring 100 mm in diameter and 110 mm high. The company says the circular platform enables production speeds as much as 30 percent faster than comparable platforms, facilitated by a rotation-led precision coater blade. A 250-W fiber laser offers good beam quality and power stability, ensuring consistent processing conditions for high-quality parts. The hardware is contained and uses a cartridge materials handling system for safe operation in smaller facilities. Options include a higher-powered laser, a powder conveyor and customized coater.

The 3D printer is equipped with Creator User Interface and the Orlas Suite application for 3D printing. Users can individually customize key process parameters thanks to the open platform strategy and comprehensive software suite. Tablet-based remote control and monitoring of multiple machines is possible, enabling the active monitoring of key process parameters from any location.

OR Laser plans to begin shipping the Orlas Creator in 2017.
