Sodick, Materialise NV Combine Hybrid AM, Design Optimization

The two companies have formed a partnership combining Sodick’s manufacturing experience and technology with Materialise NV’s software to promote additive manufacturing.

Sodick is combining its experience supplying traditional manufacturers with Materialise NV’s AM design optimization capabilities to form a partnership to promote additive manufacturing.

Sodick has used its inroads and experience in traditional manufacturing to develop its DMLS hybrid 3D printer, designed to bring AM part finish and strength quality into line with the expectations of traditional manufacturers. Its OPM line of 3D printers achieves 99.99 percent density to eliminate porousness in parts, and can achieve surface finishes as low as 0.22 micron Ra (9 RMS), according to the company.

Materialise’s software offerings, including Magics and SG+, are designed to enable users to easily design and edit support structures to print accurate 3D parts.

This partnership enables Sodick to offer both hybrid DMLS systems and design optimization solutions.
