Proto Labs Acquires Alphaform

The transaction expands Proto Labs’ presence in Germany as well as Europe at large.

Rapid manufacturer Proto Labs (Maple Plain, Minnesota) has completed acquisition select assets and operations of Alphaform AG, a service bureau headquartered in Felkirchen, Germany. The planned acquisition includes Alphaform division operating in Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom.

Proto Labs’ existing European business includes injection molding, CNC machining and stereolithography services operating out of Telford, England. The acquisition significantly expands Proto Labs’ additive manufacturing capabilities in Europe with the addition of selective laser sintering, direct metal laser sintering and expanded stereolithography capabilities. The purchase also gives Proto Labs a major presence in Germany, which is the largest single market for the company’s services in Europe.

In addition to additive capabilities, the agreement also includes injection molding services offered by Alphaform Claho of Eschenlohe, Germany. MediMet Precision Casting and Implants Technology GmbH, a subsidiary of Alphaform AG, is not part of the transaction.
