ITAMCO is delivering medical device components made with an EOS M 290 industrial 3D printer, which has direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) capabilities to make the small, complex components required by the medical device industry.

The company began shipping components to a supplier a few months after receiving the printer, and credits the fast ramp up to the EOS team’s training, which had the printer up and running quickly, and experience gained while contributing to the development of additive manufacturing software.

ITAMCO was part of a consortium of manufacturers and universities that collaborated to develop the program through the America Makes initiative. The software, Atlas 3D, is said to work seamlessly with the EOS printer and is now marketed through a division of ITAMCO.

ITAMCO’s proximity to medical implant manufacturers in Indiana makes this move a logical one. The company has hired two employees from medical device companies, and plans to expand its presence in the market.
