EWI Adds AM Expert to Buffalo Manufacturing Works Staff

Francisco Medina, formerly of Arcam, has joined the applied R&D organization operated by EWI.

Engineering and technology organization EWI has announced that AM expert Francisco Medina, Jr. Ph.D. is joining its team at Buffalo Manufacturing Works as principal engineer. Medina comes to Buffalo from Arcam, where he was managing its North America relationships and R&D activities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

“Frank will be a great asset to our organization and excellent addition to our Buffalo team,” said Henry Cialone, EWI CEO and president. “His knowledge in electron beam melting (EBM) systems deepens EWI’s expertise in AM to better serve industry.”

Shawn Kelly, EWI’s technology lead for AM adds, “Frank’s oversight of Buffalo Manufacturing Works’ AM capabilities enhances our offerings to manufacturers who want to incorporate additive processes in their operations.”

Medina earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in materials science & engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), a leading multi-disciplinary engineering program. Prior to his work with Arcam, Medina was center manager for the University of Texas at El Paso W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation which explores material extrusion, binder jetting and powder-bed fusion processes.
