Solving The High Cost of Low Volume Plastic Parts

March 08

PMT Shielding Solutions provides highly reflective coating solutions principally to aerospace, defense, and medical industries. They design quantities of fixtures for their customer’s parts to be shielded from EMI and RF intrusions. They also design molds for custom silicone masking.

PMT has gone from three steps in its additive manufacturing journey:

  1. Machining
  2. Outsourcing to service bureaus
  3. In-house production with an industrial 3D printer

With in-house production, savings have been between 50-70% in fully loaded part costs

Adam Anaforian from PMT and Ed Israel from Plural Additive Manufacturing present PMT’s growth, a detailed analysis of cost savings, and highlighting of new capabilities PMT can provide their customers. Learn how PMT moved from machining to outsourced printing to internal production.

Primary Topics

  • Comparison of advantages of service bureaus   and internal production
  • Using a framework to estimate low volume plastic part ROI
  • Exploration of new services using additive manufacturing
