Rosswag Qualifies Nickel-Based Superalloy Waspaloy for Additive Manufacturing

Rosswag GmbH, a leading company with a unique process chain in the field of forging technology and additive manufacturing, specialized early in the efficient qualification of existing and newly developed alloys for additive manufacturing. Rosswag Engineering has now succeeded in processing the nickel-based superalloy Waspaloy in the additive manufacturing process.

Rosswag Engineering's in-house process chain enables a material to be initially qualified for the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process within a few weeks. The atomization plant for small quantities of special metal powder and the comprehensively equipped metallurgy laboratory are key factors for efficient qualification projects. In this context, over 35 alloys have already been qualified for the LPBF process in recent years.

The mechanical-technological properties of the nickel-based superalloy Waspaloy, with a tensile strength of 1400 MPa in the initial test series, are above those of the nickel-based alloys currently most frequently used in the AM process, such as Inconel 718. Thus, opening new possibilities for the additive manufacturing of functionally optimized parts for components subjected to high loads and temperatures, for example in gas turbines, the company says.
