Nordmetall GmbH, based in Neukirchen, Germany, has acquired a Gefertec arc403 for additive manufacturing. Highly dynamic materials testing is one of the specialties at Nordmetall. The company also works on research and development projects aimed at advancing technologies for manufacturing components from high-strength steels.
The arc403 that will be used by Nordmetall enables three-axis production of metal components with a maximum mass of 800 kg. The arc403 works with 3DMP. 3DMP is said to be faster and easier to handle than powder-based 3D printing and wire is available at significantly lower prices for most standard materials.
Nordmetall CEO Dr. Norman Herzig explains: "We work on many customer projects that include components made from high-strength steels – and build-up welding is one of our standard manufacturing techniques. Now, with our new arc403, we can automate this process instead of relying on manual operations."
Nordmetall CEO Dr. Herzig regards the 3DMP process as a key technology for the future: "This additive manufacturing technique has great potential for reducing the time required to produce components made from high-strength steels – and lowering costs at the same time!"

How to Build 10,000+ Shot Molds in Hours
Rapid tooling isn’t so rapid when it takes days to 3D print a metal mold, and then you still must machine it to reach the necessary tolerances. With Nexa3D’s polymer process you can print a mold in hours that is prototype or production ready and can last for more than 10,000 shots.
