According to Caterpillar Inc., buying a 3D printer is only the first step of adopting AM strategies. Organizations must also consider the five W’s of AM: what to print, where to print, who to run the printer, when to print and why to print. The process of implementing AM in an organization is long and involves everyone from the engineers to the manufacturing staff. Stacey DelVecchio, additive manufacturing product manager at Caterpillar, will discuss strategies to use when working around the limiting factors of human capital in order to inform, educate and implement AM in a large-scale organization. Schmidt’s presentation takes place during the upcoming Additive Manufacturing Conference, co-located with IMTS 2016, at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14 in room W375-B.
