Additive Manufacturing Conference Speaker: GE Aviation

At the Additive Manufacturing Conference, taking place August 27-29 in Austin, Texas, GE’s Eric Gatlin will dive deep into the company’s latest breakthrough in additive: the GE9X.

GE9X engine, Boeing 777X

The GE9X, a high-bypass turbofan engine that boasts 304 additively manufactured parts integrated into seven multi-part structures, powers Boeing’s new 777X twin-engine jet.

Additive manufacturing (AM) for production is growing in the aerospace industry as more and more companies realize the time and cost savings of 3D printing for lighter, structurally sound parts. GE, for instance, has recently released the first commercial aircraft engine to reach production with a large number of additive parts.

At the 2019 Additive Manufacturing Conference, Eric Gatlin, executive leader of GE Aviation’s Additive Integrated Product team, will dive deep into the commercialized GE9X aircraft engine, drawing on his knowledge of the additive parts used in its makeup. Gatlin will also provide an overview of the direction GE hopes to take as the company moves forward with AM part production in aviation.

The session will take place Wednesday, August 28, at 9:30 a.m.
