Every two years, suppliers and manufacturers gather at Chicago’s McCormick Place for the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS). As one of the world’s largest industrial trade shows, IMTS covers technologies ranging from cutting tools to waterjets to five-axis machining centers.

Additive manufacturing will have a significant presence at this year’s IMTS, happening September 12-17. For the first time, there will be a dedicated Additive Manufacturing Pavilion (North Building, B Hall) housing 25 exhibitors. Hybrid manufacturing equipment, software and other AM-related offerings will be on display throughout the show floor. And the latest edition of the Additive Manufacturing Conference (AMC) will be held on site September 13-14.

To help our readers prepare for the show, we’ve devoted a large portion of the Additive Manufacturing August issue to IMTS details. Inside you’ll find a complete schedule for the AMC, supplier profiles and a selection of the AM products that will be on display during the show.

Also in this issue:

  • Why an oilfield contract manufacturer is turning to hybrid manufacturing for survival;
  • How thermal radiation may lead to a new paradigm for AM part inspection;
  • What a powder recycling experiment suggests about material reuse; and
  • How SLM reduced the body weight of a robot actuator.
