Additive Manufactured Components Reach Jupiter
The Juno spacecraft includes titanium waveguide brackets made through AM.
The Juno spacecraft, which was launched in August 2011, is now in orbit around Jupiter. That means parts made through AM are orbiting Jupiter as well (see next photo).
This titanium waveguide bracket (seen here before and after machining) is one of the early EBM parts produced by Lockheed Martin Space Systems when it had begun to use this capability.
(From 2016) The Juno spacecraft that arrived in orbit around Jupiter on July 4 has now carried additive manufacturing farther than it has ever gone before. Among the spacecraft’s parts are components produced through electron beam melting, including the waveguide bracket seen in the photo sequence above.
