Additive Industries Delivers Metal AM System to Sauber

In exchange, Additive Industries will use Sauber’s production facility for training its European customer base.

The Sauber Formula One (F1) team has taken delivery of its first MetalFab1 industrial additive manufacturing system as part of a three-year technology partnership with Additive Industries. The company’s founders Jonas Wintermans and Daan Kersten handed the system over to Sauber Motorsport AG Production Director Axel Kruse and Chief Wind Tunnel Production Christoph Hansen.

With more than 10 years of experience in plastic AM, the Sauber F1 team is expanding its 3D printing capabilities to metals. The investment in two MetalFab1 systems reduces the cycle time for manufacturing of parts for its wind tunnel models, F1 race cars and third-party business. In return, Additive Industries will use Sauber’s production facility in Hinwil, Switzerland, as a training facility for its European customer base.
