Sabic Debuts High-Performance Filaments for FDM

Designed for use with Stratasys Fortus printers, the filement grades enable durable end-use parts.

Sabic has launched a portfolio of high-performance filament grades for fused deposition modeling. Designed for use with Stratasys Fortus printers, the filaments are based on the company's Ultem polyetherimide (PEI) resin, Cycolac acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin and Lexan polycarbonate (PC) resin. According to Sabic, the filaments offer the same composition as the company’s injection molding grades and can be used to produce a range of high-performance, durable end-use parts.

These new materials solutions directly address the need for greater options in the industrial filament market and target a broad range of customer requirements, says Sabic. Both ABS and PC are well-established materials for additive manufacturing of prototypes and end use parts, while Sabic’s Ultem (PEI) filament is desirable for demanding applications that require high heat resistance, high strength, and low flame, smoke and toxicity (FST).

These products include: Ultem AM908F, a high-performance PEI product manufactured from Ultem 9085 resin with high heat resistance and mechanical strength. This product provides high heat resistance and mechanical strength; Cycolac AMMG94F filament, a general-purpose ABS product manufactured from Cycolac MG94 resin; and Lexan AM1110F filament, a general-purpose PC product ismanufactured from Lexan HF1110 resin which provides thermal properties higher than those of general-purpose ABS filaments.

The nominal diameter of all Sabic’s filament products is 1.79 mm ±0.05 mm, and they are available in a 1510cc spool size.
