Boom Supersonic Agreement with Stratasys to Improve Speed of Development for Supersonic Aircraft

The first flight of Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 supersonic demonstrator is planned for 2018.

Boom Supersonic has signed a three-year agreement with Stratasys to help accelerate production of advanced tooling and production-grade aircraft parts based on Stratasys FDM 3D printing technology. Boom is planning the first flight of its XB-1, a supersonic demonstrator, for next year.

The supersonic airliner is designed to travel 2.6 times faster than any other aircraft on the market. Accelerating to 1,451 mph, the planes could reduce typical New York to London flight times of seven hours to just over three hours.

Boom is deploying Stratasys FDM-based Fortus 450mc and F370 3D printers, designed to produce on-demand parts leveraging production-grade thermoplastics, as well as advanced manufacturing tools.

The agreement will allow Boom to leverage Stratasys 3D printing technology, materials and expert services. The partnership aims to advance speed, cost savings and performance across engineering and manufacturing processes at Boom’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
