We knew going into the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) this year that additive manufacturing would play a significant role. The 2016 show marked the first time that AM had a dedicated space in Chicago’s McCormick Place—the Additive Manufacturing Pavilion, located at the entrance to the North Building. Many AM equipment suppliers and service providers set up shop in this section, giving attendees a chance to see additive technology and capabilities up close.
But AM’s influence extended far beyond the footprint of the pavilion. We saw additive manufacturing widely represented, from hybrid machine tools in the Metal Cutting pavilion to 3D-printed vehicles in AMT’s Emerging Technology Center to laser-melted cutting tools in the Tooling & Workholding pavilion to 3D printers at the Student Summit. The slideshow above provides just a sampling of all there was to see.
The 2016 show also saw the return of the Additive Manufacturing Conference, a day and a half of programming dedicated solely to additive manufacturing for industrial production. Though next year is an off year for IMTS, this conference will take place independently in October 2017. Find more details as they are available at additiveconference.com.
