How Does Topology Optimization Work? See the Recorded Webinar

This SolidThinking presentation includes examples of weight-optimized parts, demonstration of topology optimization and responses to viewer questions.

In the presentation he gave in a recent Additive Manufacturing webinar, SolidThinking senior application engineer Jaideep Bangal demonstrated topology optimization—showing how software that works computationally within engineering constraints can generate optimized part forms as an alternative to manually creating forms in CAD. Because topology optimization aims to realize a form that achieves the part’s load and assembly requirements with minimum material or mass, it frequently produces shapes no human designer would construct—and shapes that can only be manufactured additively.

Bangal’s presentation included examples of redesigned parts that realized significant weight savings, as well as a demonstration of how topology optimization is applied using SolidThinking’s Inspire software. A significant part of the webinar consisted of Bangal responding to audience questions. See his presentation and hear the Q&A exchange by accessing the webinar’s recorded version.
